Is Kamban’s Rama, a Human or a Maalavan?
In this book, the skills of Kamban and the elegance he shows in his character creation are examined, focusing on his portrayal of the hero Rama as a normal human in his epic Kamba Ramayanam. The book explains how Kamban has presented the actions of Rama not as an expression of divine character, but of an average human in various situations. The book was launched at the Kamban Festival by the International Sri Lankan Kamban Society in March 2018.

அ. கி. வரதராசன் தமிழ்நாட்டில் 1944ஆம் ஆண்டு பிறந்தவர். சிங்கப்பூரில் வேலையேற்க 1982 இல் வந்தவர். கடந்த 25 ஆண்டுகளாக, சிங்கப்பூர் குடிமகனாக வாழ்ந்து வருகிறார்.
மரபுக் கவிதைகள் எழுதுபவர். இவரது மரபுக் கவிதை நூல்கள் சிங்கையில் பல பரிசுகளைப் பெற்றுள்ளன. கம்பனை ஆய்வு செய்து பல நூல்களை எழுதியுள்ளார். இந்நூல்கள் தமிழ்நாட்டிலுள்ள கம்பன் கழகங்களால் அவர்கள் நடத்தும் கம்பன் விழாக்களில் வெளியீடு கண்டு, அக்கழகங்கள் வழங்கும் பரிசுகளையும் விருதுகளையும் வரதராசன் பெற்றுள்ளார்.
கடந்த ஆறு ஆண்டுகளாக, இயக்கம், பாடலாக்கம், மேடை அமைப்பு, ஒட்டு மொத்த நிர்வாகம் எனப் பல பொறுப்புகளையும் ஏற்று இசை மற்றும் நாட்டிய நாடகங்களையும் இவர் மேடையேற்றி வருகிறார்.

Born in 1944 in Tamil Nadu, A. K. Varadharajan came to Singapore in 1982, and has been a Singapore citizen for the past 25 years. His traditional poetry books have received many prizes. He has studied and written many books about Kamban, and his books have been launched at Kamban events hosted by Kamban Clubs in Tamil Nadu. He regularly stages music and dance dramas, directing, composing lyrics, building stages, and doing administrative work, and he conducts weekly Kambaramayana classes.

Singapore-Malaysia : A History of Tamil Literature - Some Turning Points
Through nine essays and six interviews, this book chronicles the works and lives of Singapore and Malaya’s Tamil writers and journalists. It explores how World War II and Japanese aggression turned our writing trajectory around, and examines banned books that were translated to Tamil and published in Kuala Lumpur, alongside numerous Tamil short stories that were written in Singapore during the Japanese occupation describing India’s fight for independence. It is the first full depiction of the literary work of Narayanar.

He is author of five books, including two in English, and writer of numerous articles in English, Tamil, and Malay. He won the Singapore Literature Prize for Non-Fiction in 2018, and received the Kanaiyaazhi (Gold Ring) award from literary group Kavimaalai as well as the Karikaalan Award from the Tamil University at Tanjore.

Vazahaimara Nottu (Banana Money) is a collection of articles about the Japanese occupation of Singapore. The book narrates Singapore’s fall to Japan and the dramatic changes to lives in Singapore that followed. Local Chinese were subjected to Japanese wrath, as were other races. Poverty and food shortages plagued Singapore. The INA flourished with Japanese support, while Force 136 movement emerged to fight the Japanese. The events that followed changed global trends until Japan’s surrender to the Allies.

Her poem Veyirthundugal (Pieces of the Sun) won the 2018 National Poetry Competition, and her short story Peyarchi (The Final Departure) won second prize in the 2019 Golden Point Award. Her award-winning stories have been published in various magazines, journals, and online magazines. Vazhaimara Nottu (Banana Money) is her first book.
