Writing Pictures and Drawing Words
with Darel Seow

This illustration workshop invites participants to create their own stories visually through images. Together with a series of quick-fire illustration exercises, they will craft narratives and create illustrations inspired by their personal interests as well as what they see around them.

What you'll need to prepare:
- 5 sheets of A4 paper
- Any drawing materials (pencil, markers, pens, crayons etc) 

About the Facilitator:
Darel is an illustration graduate from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (UK). Particularly interested in museums and culture, he has worked with the British Museum (UK), National Museum of Singapore, Asian Civilisations Museum (Singapore), and other cultural institutions to encourage learning through the power of imagination and play.

Design Your Own Comic Book Character!
with Zaki Ragman

Learn how to create a comic character and discover key elements to consider when creating your own character in this hands-on workshop.

What you'll need to prepare:
- Paper
- Pencil
- Eraser

About the Facilitator:
Zaki believes in lifelong learning. He spent 20 years in the animation and creative industry, in companies like Southern Star, Scrawl Studios and OMD Singapore. He now enjoys sharing, developing and visualising creative concepts and experimenting with new ways to create artworks.

Story Craft
with Nek Selampit

Join Nek Selampit for a telling of Pak Belang and His Reflection, a fable from the Kancil series for the young audiences to enjoy! Attendees can join in chants and refrains throughout the telling and be guided by Nek Selampit to create their very own popsicle tiger puppet for keeps.

What you'll need to prepare:
- 4 Ice-cream sticks (coloured with orange marker in-advance)
- 2 Google eyes/ 2 cut-out white circles/ 2 circle-shaped white stickers
- Black marker
- Orange coloured paper
- Scissors (assistance from an adult is advised) 
- Glue

About the Facilitator:
Jumaini is a published author and is well-known for her storytelling persona, Nek Selampit. She heads Storyscribblers which provides quality literary workshops for students and preschool educators. In 2017, Jumaini became the first storyteller to be appointed as a Language Ambassador by the Malay Language Council - Singapore.

Pictures and Poetry, Assemble!
with Loh Guan Liang

Embark on a journey of meaning-making and poetry writing! In this workshop, participants will be introduced to ekphrastic poetry through a series of fun, guided writing exercises, as well as a discussion of selected ekphrastic poems and song lyrics.

What you'll need to prepare:
- Paper
- Writing/colouring materials

About the facilitator:
Loh Guan Liang is the author of two poetry collections: Bitter Punch (Ethos, 2016) and Transparent Strangers (Math Paper Press, 2012). Bitter Punch was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize in 2018. Guan Liang also co-translated Art Studio (Math Paper Press, 2014), a Chinese novel by Singapore Cultural Medallion recipient Yeng Pway Ngon.

Using Photographs as Writing Prompts
with Sim Ee Waun

In writing nonfiction stories, authors often use photographs for research and for writing inspiration. This workshop teaches you to do the same by bringing your stories and characters alive using a photographic prompt.

What you'll need to prepare:
- Paper
- Pen or pencil

About the Facilitator:
A food & travel writer and freelance editor for 28 years, Sim Ee Waun turned to writing children’s books as her second career. She co-authored history-based The Little Singapore Book and The House on Palmer Road and is a founding partner of boutique children’s publisher, Pepper Dog Press.
