Love Comes Into Shape

Published in Hong Kong, Love Comes Into Shape challenges conventional poetics and literary views. Wu reinvents poetic assemblage and the sonnet with a global perspective, critically addressing environmental issues, war and infanticide taking place in different parts of the world. He camouflages quotidian settings in biting ironies. Listed in Lianhe Zaobao as one of the best books of 2018, Love Comes Into Shape exerts uncommon literary force.

Gaze Back

What do we expect of an unapologetically female author? What do we expect of consuming art? Should a work be easy and safe?

Marylyn’s debut volume, Gaze Back, complicates femininity, queerness, and the occult. The feminine grotesque subverts restrictions placed upon the feminine body, the occultic counterpoint to organised religion a means of empowering the marginalised.

Dream Shoes

It is Easy to be an Italian

It is Easy to Be An Italian is a collection of 80 poems by Sithuraj Ponraj in Tamil. The poems seek to explore the various aspects and challenges associated with preserving one's own Singaporean Tamil culture and identity in an increasingly interconnected global environment. To do this, the poems in this collection break away from images and forms traditionally used in Tamil poetry while retaining a strong connection to purity of the language shaped by the three millennia of Tamil literature. The title of the collection reflects the tension that exists in the hearts of many Singaporeans - a deep sense of one's own culture, and yet the possibility of accessing online communities where one can be something else altogether if one chooses. A world where indeed it is easy to be Italian or anyone else you choose to be.

The focus of Shubigi Rao’s ongoing Pulp project is the history of book destruction, censorship, and repression, and the book as a symbol of resistance. She travels across the world, filming collections, libraries, archives and subjects that have served as historical flashpoints.

This second volume expands on the entangled issues and the complex histories of her encounters.

Combining fragments, ephemera and anecdotes, Rao creates an absorbing and powerful composite of the conjoined literary and violent trajectories of our species.

Falsafah Pengkaryaan Melayu Singapura

The Philosophy of Singapore Malay Creative Writing Process

Existing books and research papers on the Malay community in Singapore are often written from the outside looking in. This book fills the gap with an insider’s perspective on the Malay social, psychological, and historical state and nuances through the creative works of Malay literature. It pushes readers to reevaluate norms in writing and become acquainted with the thought processes of great post-independent laureates, and it shares the circumstances that shaped the writers’ values and ideals, producing works that elevate Malay intellectuality.

Black Panther

Black Panther is a collection of 10 short stories published in local newspapers, and some which were translated and published in overseas literary platforms. Spanning from the colonial period to the modern independent era, the themes of the stories place historical incidents into a fictional framework that depicts the everyday lives of Singaporeans. It is the author’s own “Singapore Story”, similar to French philosopher Jean François Lyotard’s retelling of forgotten events and weaving them into the fabric of a generation.
